How to choose a water treatment company in Chicago

Ask any water treatment company these ten questions before you sign. Each has a plain answer you can check, and where we have an answer of our own, it sits next to it.

The ten questions

  1. Is there a price before anyone visits?

What to look for: A written price you can read before anyone comes to your house.

Our answer: The City Water Package is $3,299 installed.

  2. What exactly is included?

What to look for: Equipment, installation, permit, tax and the first fill of salt, listed in writing.

Our answer: Ours is listed under what is in the price.

  3. Who does the plumbing, and can I look up their license?

What to look for: A license number you can search on the Illinois Department of Public Health's plumbing license lookup.

  4. What does the equipment's certification listing say?

What to look for: The listing for the exact model you would get. A certification covers only what its listing names.

Our answer: We claim only what the exact model's certification listing names, and we send you any listing before you buy.

  5. What is the written warranty?

What to look for: Warranty terms on paper, for the equipment and for the installer's work.

Our answer: Your written quote lists the warranty terms for your exact equipment.

  6. When do I pay, and what happens to a booking payment?

What to look for: Each payment step, and what is refunded if plans change, in writing.

Our answer: Tax included. 50% when you book, 50% when the install passes our checklist. If you cancel before we order your equipment, we refund your booking payment in full. If we can't go ahead with your install, we refund it in full.

  7. How is the system sized?

What to look for: Sizing from your water test and household, with the math shown.

Our answer: We show our sizing math on the well water page.

  8. What does it cost to run each year?

What to look for: Salt and filter costs in writing.

Our answer: You top up the salt about once a month, and the drinking-water filters change about once a year.

  9. What if the test shows iron?

What to look for: How extra treatment is priced before work starts.

Our answer: Iron treatment is quoted separately, in writing, before you decide. See what can change a price.

  10. Can I read reviews at their original source?

What to look for: Reviews that link to the original on Google, not screenshots.

Our answer: We're new and have no reviews yet. We only publish reviews that link to their original on Google.
